Question: I am unable to continue my recording on the Philips DVT1150 after the device has been switched off. It always creates a new file. Is there a possibility to append a new recording to an existing file ("Append")? Is the device possibly defective?
Answer: The Philips DVT1150 model (as well as the DVT1160) does not support the function to append a new recording to an existing audio file or to overwrite it. The behavior of creating a new file after the device is switched off is normal for this model.
Only the following models offer an append function:
- DVT2110
- DVT4110
- DVT6110
- DVT8110
In addition, the professional DPM (Digital Pocket Memo) devices also offer advanced functions such as inserting new parts into existing files.
Example – Appending a recording on the DVT2110: (See user manual here, page 9) In stop mode of the desired file, press the record button. If the cursor is at the end of the file: A new section will be appended to the end of the existing recording. If the cursor is at the beginning: The edit mode will open. Select "Append" with Up/Down and confirm with the record button.
Conclusion:
The behavior you described is normal for the DVT1150. An append function is not supported by this device. Higher-end models are required for advanced editing functions.
