Your device operates under the guidance of a specialized internal program known as firmware. This firmware is crucial for the overall functionality and performance of your device. To ensure that your device continues to operate smoothly and efficiently, it is subject to regular updates as part of an ongoing maintenance strategy. These updates are designed not only to enhance existing features but also to rectify any potential errors that may hinder performance. By keeping the firmware up to date, you can take advantage of the latest improvements and ensure optimal operation of your device.
During the firmware upgrade process, you will notice that the power LED on your SmartMike will glow white. This visual indicator serves as a confirmation that the device is currently undergoing the upgrade. It is essential to allow the upgrade to complete without interruption, as this will help prevent any potential issues that could arise from an incomplete installation. Monitoring the LED status during this time can provide reassurance that the upgrade is proceeding as intended.
It is important to note that a firmware upgrade cannot be performed while an active recording is taking place. This limitation ensures that the recording process remains uninterrupted and that the integrity of the data being captured is maintained. Attempting to initiate a firmware upgrade during this time may lead to complications or errors, which could compromise both the recording and the device's overall functionality. Therefore, it is advisable to pause or stop any ongoing recordings before proceeding with the firmware update to ensure a smooth and successful upgrade process.
You can also update the firmware using the SpeechControl software, and we will describe how to do that here. In order for the SmartMike Duo device to be recognized by the software, it is essential that you have at least version 4.4.440 of SpeechControl installed. This is important because older versions do not implement the necessary hardware SDK required for proper functionality.
Updating the firmware through the SpeechControl software is a straightforward process, but it is crucial to ensure that you have the correct version installed. The SpeechControl software serves as a vital tool for managing and enhancing the performance of your SmartMike Duo device. By using the latest version, you ensure compatibility and access to the latest features and improvements that have been made to the software.
When you have confirmed that your SpeechControl software is up to date, you can proceed with the firmware update process. This typically involves connecting your SmartMike Duo device to your computer, launching the SpeechControl software, and following the prompts to check for and install any available firmware updates. This process not only helps to maintain the device's performance but also ensures that you benefit from any bug fixes and enhancements that have been released since your last update.
You can download the firmware from here and save it in the Downloads folder on your computer. Additionally, the firmware is also included with this article for your convenience.
After you have downloaded the firmware, navigate to the TAB labeled Firmware Upgrade. Once there, you will find an option to click on IMPORT. Make sure that the firmware file is correctly selected before proceeding to the next steps in the upgrade process.
Please designate a specific folder where the firmware files will be imported. This step is crucial as it ensures that the files are organized and easily accessible for future use. By selecting a designated folder, you can streamline the process of managing your firmware updates and avoid any potential confusion that may arise from having files scattered across different locations on your system.
In our example, we have saved the firmware directly in the download folder. This approach allows for easy access to the firmware files, making it convenient for users to locate and manage them. By storing the firmware in a designated folder, we ensure that all relevant files are organized and readily available for installation or updates. This method can help streamline the process of updating devices or software, as users can quickly find the necessary files without having to search through multiple directories.
Finally, click on the OK button to complete the process.
Now we can see that the newly imported firmware has been recognized, verified, and successfully integrated into the software. This means that we are now ready to initiate the firmware upgrade process.
When you proceed with the upgrade process, an additional confirmation window will appear on your screen. In this confirmation window, you will find an option to confirm your decision. To continue with the upgrade, simply click on the button that says YES, upgrade the device.
This action will finalize your choice and initiate the upgrade procedure.
After a few seconds, the device undergoes a reinitialization process, during which we can observe that the new firmware has been successfully installed. In our specific case, this is version 1.04. Once this process is complete, the device will be ready for use again.
