HowTo: Update the firmware for SpeechMikes

Your device operates using an internal program known as firmware, which is essential for its functionality and performance. This firmware is subject to regular updates as part of ongoing product maintenance. These updates not only enhance the device's performance but also address any errors or bugs that may have been identified since the last version was released. This proactive approach ensures that your device remains efficient and reliable over time, providing you with the best possible user experience.

It is important to note that since the time of your purchase, a newer version of the firmware may have been made available. This means that there are likely improvements and fixes that you can benefit from by updating your device to the latest version. Keeping your firmware up to date is crucial, as it can enhance functionality, improve security, and introduce new features that were not available in earlier versions.

Before proceeding with the firmware update, we strongly recommend that you download and install the SpeechControl software. This application is integral to the update process and will facilitate a smooth transition to the latest firmware version. You can easily obtain the most current version of the SpeechControl software by visiting the following link: https://www.dictation.philips.com/speechcontrol. Installing this software will ensure that you have all the necessary tools at your disposal for a successful update.

Where can I find the SpeechMike firmware for download?

Start the software and check the current firmware version

Check if the device is recognized and displayed correctly. In our example its a SpeechMike Premium Touch 3800 device. Now click on the button.

Here you can see the serial number of the device and the currently installed firmware version.

Update Firmware

Start the SpeechControl software, if you have an Internet connection to our server, a message is displayed in the bottom right corner, stating that a Firmware download is available. Click on this message.

Click on the Download now button

After the firmware is downloaded and prepared for the update process, you can click on Upgrade now.

Another information window appears. From now on you must be careful not to interrupt the process, otherwise the device may be damaged. Click on Yes, upgrade the device.

The firmware is now transferred to the device, this may take a few seconds.

If the firmware is successfully transferred and installed, then the current version appears in the Device tab under Firmware upgrade. You can also, as done before, click on the button and check the current firmware.

Manual Firmware Update

Sometimes the automatic firmware update cannot be used. This is usually due to security settings or an installation without Internet connection. How can I update the firmware?

You need to download the firmware on a computer, unzip the firmware and copy it to an external USB stick.

First, open the support page for your product and download the firmware to the USB stick.

Unzip the downloaded .zip file.

There are two files in the folder

a firmware file with the extension .bin
a readme file with the extension .html

Now connect the prepared USB stick and the SpeechMike to the same computer. Start the SpeechControl software, navigate to the Device tab, select Firmware upgrade and click on the Import button.

Navigate to the USB stick and open the folder where you previously unzipped the firmware.

The new firmware will be imported and can be updated as described above.

Now just click on Upgrade and the installation process will start.

Click Yes, upgrade the device.

The firmware is now being transferred to the device, this may take a few seconds.
