Would you like to further optimize the recording quality of your Philips audio recorder or your professional dictation device? In this article, you will learn which external microphones are compatible with the Philips VoiceTracer (DVT) and the PocketMemo (DPM) and which application areas they are best suited for.
All microphones presented here use a standard 3.5 mm jack connection and are therefore ideal as an addition to your hardware.
The conference microphone: Philips LFH9172 (360° recording)
The LFH9172 is the perfect solution for meetings and conferences. It is specially designed to evenly capture sound from all directions.
The innovative boundary layer design makes optimal use of the sound pressure from the table surface. This results in significantly increased sound and recording quality compared to standard microphones.
Through cascading (connecting in series), several microphones can be linked together to cover even very large tables.
Integrated cable winding, no microphone stand needed, 360-degree sound recording.
| Technical Data | Details |
|---|---|
| Connection | 3.5 mm jack (with output for cascading) |
| Frequency Response | 30 – 18,000 Hz |
| Cable Length | 2 meters |
| Sensitivity | -38 dBV |
What does cascading mean?
Cascading refers to connecting several devices in series to form a chain. In the case of the LFH9172, this means you can connect up to five microphones together to extend the recording range to even very large conference tables.
The clip-on microphone (lavalier): Philips LFH9173
If you want to move freely or conduct interviews, the LFH9173 clip-on microphone is the ideal choice. It can be discreetly attached to clothing.
A windscreen included in the package reduces disturbing ambient noise.
Compact, secure with clip attachment, excellent voice quality for mobile recorders.

|---|---|
| Connection | 3.5 mm mono jack |
| Frequency Response | 50 – 20,000 Hz |
| Cable Length120 cm | |
| Characteristic | Omnidirectional (spherical) |
What does omnidirectional characteristic mean?
Omnidirectional characteristic (often also referred to as spherical characteristic) means that the microphone picks up sound equally sensitively from all directions (360 degrees).
The telephone recording microphone: Philips LFH9162
The LFH9162 allows you to easily record telephone calls in high quality with your recorder. It is worn like an in-ear headphone and records the voice directly from the telephone handset.
Retractable cable, high wearing comfort, extremely sensitive microphone for clear recordings of both conversation partners.

| Connection | 3.5 mm mono jack |
| Cable Length | 1.1 meters (extendable) |
| Type | Electret condenser microphone |
What does electret condenser microphone mean?
With a classic condenser microphone, the diaphragm requires an external voltage, the so-called phantom power. Only then can it convert sound waves into electrical signals.
With the electret microphone, it is different:
The diaphragm (or the backplate) has a so-called “electret layer.” This is permanently electrostatically charged. You can think of it as a built-in “permanent magnet” for electrical charge.
Since no high external voltage is required for the capsule, these microphones can be made extremely small – ideal for clip-on microphones (LFH9173) or telephone microphones (LFH9162).
Despite their small size, they are very sensitive and offer high fidelity, which is crucial for precise voice recording and later speech recognition (speech-to-text).
General compatibility & important note for DVT2110
Our external microphones are designed for maximum flexibility. Thanks to the standardized 3.5 mm jack connection, they are compatible with almost all digital dictation devices (such as the Philips PocketMemo series) as well as almost all models of the Philips VoiceTracer series (DVT).
Important exception: Please note when purchasing accessories that the Philips VoiceTracer DVT2110 does not have an external microphone input. The existing 3.5 mm port is intended solely as an output for headphones or earphones. Connecting external microphones is therefore not possible with this model.
