Firmware refers to the specific segment of software that has been embedded into devices such as the Digital Pocket Memo. This crucial component can be upgraded either directly on the device itself or through the SpeechExec application when the device is connected to a personal computer. Keeping the firmware up-to-date is essential for ensuring that the device operates smoothly and takes advantage of the latest features and improvements.
In the following sections, we will outline a straightforward process that you can follow to update the firmware of your audio recorder. This guide will help you navigate through the necessary steps to ensure that your device is running the most recent version of its firmware, which can enhance performance and resolve any existing issues.
This firmware update procedure is applicable to the following product lines: DPM8000 series, DPM7000 series, and DPM6000 series. Each of these models has its own unique features, but the steps for updating the firmware remain consistent across these series. By following this guide, you will be able to ensure that your audio recorder is equipped with the latest enhancements and functionalities.
Important noteBefore you begin the update process, it is essential to ensure that your device's battery is fully charged. This precautionary measure is crucial as it helps to avoid any potential power interruptions that could occur during the update. Such interruptions can lead to incomplete installations, system errors, or even damage to the device's software, which may necessitate complicated recovery procedures. Therefore, taking the time to verify that your battery is adequately charged will help facilitate a smooth and successful update experience.
When it comes to updating firmware, there are two distinct methods that we will outline in this section. Each method offers its own advantages and may be better suited to different scenarios or user preferences. By understanding these options, users can choose the most appropriate approach for their specific needs, ensuring a smooth and efficient firmware update process.
Direct update
To begin the process, ensure that you connect the DPM device to your computer using a USB cable. This connection is essential as it allows for data transfer and communication between the device and the computer. Make sure the USB cable is securely plugged into both the DPM device and one of the available USB ports on your computer. Once the connection is established, you may proceed to power on the DPM device, if it is not already powered on, to initiate the setup process.
Open webbrowser and navigate to DPM support page
Begin by selecting the firmware file that you wish to use. This is an essential step in the process, as the correct firmware is crucial for ensuring that your device operates efficiently and effectively. Once you have located the appropriate firmware file, proceed by clicking on it to initiate the upgrade process.
If you are interested in understanding the specifics of what the firmware upgrade entails, there is an option to access a readme file. By clicking on this readme file, you will be provided with detailed information regarding the changes, improvements, and potential impacts associated with the firmware upgrade. This document serves as a valuable resource for anyone looking to familiarize themselves with the upgrade process and the benefits it may bring to their device.
New window with software end user license agreement appears. Click again on Downlaod Button
Begin by navigating to the DPM device within your file explorer. This is an essential step as it allows you to access the storage locations associated with the device. Once you have located the DPM device, proceed to download the DPM firmware file. It is crucial to ensure that you save this file correctly to avoid any issues during the update process.
When saving the firmware file, make sure to select the root directory of the DPM device. The root directory serves as the main folder of the device's storage, and placing the firmware file here will facilitate its recognition and accessibility during the installation or update process. By following these steps carefully, you can ensure that the firmware file is properly saved and ready for use.
To begin, it is essential to disconnect the DPM from the USB connection or to carefully remove it from the docking station. This step is crucial as it prepares the device for the update process. Once you have completed this action, the update procedure will commence automatically. It is important to exercise a little patience during this time, as it may take a few moments for the device's menu to reappear on the screen. This waiting period is a normal part of the update process, and it ensures that all necessary updates are properly applied to the device.
SpeechExec Pro
Begin by establishing a connection between the Digital Pocket Memo (DPM) and your computer. This can typically be done using a USB cable or through a wireless connection, depending on the model of your DPM. Make sure that the device is powered on and properly recognized by your computer.
Once the connection is successfully made, proceed to launch the SpeechExec Software on your computer. This software is designed to facilitate the transcription and management of audio recordings made with the DPM. It provides a user-friendly interface that allows you to easily access, organize, and edit your audio files. Ensure that the software is up to date to take advantage of the latest features and improvements.
To begin, navigate to the menu that contains the various configuration options for your device or application. Look for the section labeled 'General Settings.' This area typically houses a variety of preferences and settings that allow you to customize your experience according to your specific needs and requirements.
Click on Updates and select DPM firmware and klick on Check Now.
If a newer firmware is found, a window will pop up. If you choose Yes, you'll see a progress dialog while the download is in progress.
A message will pop up asking if you'd like to install the update. Just click on OK again.
A message will appear indicating that you need to disconnect the Digital Pocket Memo for the device to update to the new firmware. Please click OK again.
Disconnect the DPM from the USB or take it out of the docking station. The update process will start on its own, so just hang tight for a little while until the device menu shows up again.
Check the Firmware version
To initiate the desired action, please press and hold the menu button for a duration of approximately 2 to 3 seconds. This brief yet intentional press will allow the device to recognize your command and respond accordingly. Make sure to maintain steady pressure on the button during this time to ensure successful activation.
Tap the middle button once more, and the display will show the device's information. You'll find details about the memory card, recording time, device type, serial number, firmware version, and the current date. When you're ready, just tap the Back Button again to exit the menu.
